" While we were visiting with everyone, a boat pulled ashore full of young girls from the group.  They invited us to come and ski.  I climbed in first holding tightly to the rocking boat. Without hesitation Craig pulled on a life vest and splashed into the water.  Matt jumped into the boat to help serve as a lookout.  With Craig in the water, ski rope in hand, the boat pulled out onto Pineview Reservoir.

Being a skilled athlete, Craig immediately popped to the top of the water, slaloming easily over the wake.  He skiied with such finesse, it appeared effortless.

The sun was hot against my face - it made the mist created by the boat feel good as it cut across the waves.  Bouncing from wake to wake, a movement caught my eye.  I turned and noticed a boat heading straight for Craig,  The driver appeared to be distracted and could not hear our warning cries.

In the movies they always make that narrow escape, but in reality that does not always happen.  Sick with fear, I watched helplessly as the boat slammed into my husband.

The impact was final...

Soberly, I watched the paramedics provide medical aid to my husband.  When they realized Craig's injury was more severe than they had anticipated, they summoned a Life-Flight Helicopter.  Within minutes the helicopter had landed on the empty dock.

The paramedics carefully placed Craig onto a stretcher and into the helicopter.  I began to follow assuming I could be with Craig.  The pilot sympathetically stopped me and said I was not allowed to board due to legal and medical regulations.  Numbly, I backed away

Almost as quickly as it landed, the helicopter lifted high into the sultry sky, transporting Craig.  With its forced wind upon me, I watched the red cross on the helicopter base grow smaller and smaller and smaller until it vanished in the distance.  I stood alone listening as the propelling sound blended in to the evening sky."
