Youth Groups... 07/02/2010

Lynne and I had the opportunity to speak to a group of young men and young women with the theme of "Never Give Up'.  They were a wonderful  group of youth.  One of the leaders was an old friend from my past in whom I played softball with years ago.  We sure had a fun time reminiscing about the good old days of how intense I was at the game.  A few other teammates came to hear us speak and as were were reflecting on some of the other players I was the one who had the good memory of remembering names.  Everyone got a kick out of that.  I am grateful for good friends and for the opportunity I had to play baseball all those years ago.

Lynne and I also had the opportunity to speak at "Pineview Reservior" to a group of young women at their girls camp.  As we drove by the lake, a sense of peace was felt of many years ago of where my accident occured.  It was just like driving by any lake.  No stress, sadness or frustration was felt at all.  I thank God for allowing me to survive that evening many years ago.  How blessed  to be able to speak to those young women on 'courage'.  The spirit was felt and at the conclusion of our speech, these beautiful girls sang to Lynne and I.  They were like angels.

Craig and Lynne,

I was at the lake the day your accident occured. I remember the very strong glare of the sun at that hour. I was a young man at the time and with one of the other boats in the same group. We also had a small accident at about the same moment, but in a different part of the lake. It involved a couple of broken ribs. That hour of the day had a very surreal feel to it because of the strong sun glare. I remember rushing our friend down the canyon to the hospital and passing emergency personnel going up the canyon. I did not know at the moment, but later I found out they were on their way up to you, Craig.

Most of all, I remember your first day back to church. You walked from your seat to the podium the best you could under your own power. It was probably a 15-minute journey to go only about 60-feet or so, including three challenging steps to climb. Once arriving at the podium you said only three short sentences. Then you turned and repeated the same long journey back to your seat.

Once arriving at the podium, the three sentences you said were, "Never give up. Never give up. Never give up."

Those three sentances, are some of the most powerful sentances I have ever heard. At all of my challenging life experiences over the years since that day, those three sentances mixed with your inspiring example of that time period, have inspired me to push on - to push on beyond what I believed I could do. They continue to inspire me today. I guess that's why I stumbled accross your website today.

Craig and Lynne, thank you for your inspiring examples. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I'm happy to learn you and your family are doing well and continue to be blessed in many ways.

Thank you.
