A couple weeks ago Lynne and I spoke at a head injury support group associated with the Traumatic Brian Injury Foundation of Utah. We were able to talk with other victims of brain injuries as well as their famliy members.  We shared our experience and how we deal with life after my accident.

There were people there trying to cope with life changing experiences and my main focus to them was to never give up! I would say to them things such as, "I used to be right handed, now I am left handed" because my right side was affected from my brain injury.

I feel we gave some inspiration to those who felt anger or depression in helping them focus on what they have instead of what they lost. Lynne and I have been invited to speak at their fall conference in September and are thrilled!

*All the profits from the book sales at this speaking engagement was donated to the TBI Foundation (traumatic brain injury).

Wow, that's a beautiful blog Craig. I love the motto, "Never Give up". That you've had all of these years. I think it's very selfless of you to give all the proceeds to the Tramatic Head Injury organization of Utah. You're such a giving soul not only to the Head Injury Organization by giving the proceeds of your book, but you're encouraging to us. Our whole family. Just reading your words makes me realize again how grateful I need to always be for what I have and not worry about what I don't have. Like a garage, etc....I think it's awesome what you do Craig. Speaking, writing and blogging, you are the bomb!!!! Keep up the good work.

Lynne and Craig,
I just had the opportunity to watch your segment on Sports Beat Channel 5 tonight. This gave me time to reflect and be in awe at how fast time has passed. My life changed the day I met you two, as Craig was referred to me by our friend Dr. Scott Southworth. At the time, I was a very young and recently graduated physical therapist working in a skilled nursing facility in Bountiful. I had treated many patients who had suffered from strokes and head injuries. However, when I saw Craig I was looking in the mirror in a sense. Here was a younger, energetic and athletic guy with a young family. It was natural and instant to develop such a strong bond with you and your family. Craig's drive to overcome the obstacles ahead of him made my job as a physical therapist easy and enjoyable. We worked hard together! Craig's physical therapy sessions quickly became rather unorthodox, as we left the clinical setting often. We would go out back and work on his gross motor skills through throwing and catching a ball and swinging a club. He then started riding his bike and pushing himself to relearn to play racquetball, and other things he loved and enjoyed before his injury. Then came one of the most scary times of my life....Craig came and picked me up to drive the two of us to the opening of the Delta Center. I've ridden a lot of things making me have white knuckles in my life, but I think I almost ripped the hand grips off the door that night! Of course, Craig drove without any problems and we had a great time and a lot of laughs. One question I remember asking him that night was, "Don't you wish you could go back and have that day over, avoiding that boating accident?" He paused for a minute, and with a very straight and sober expression told me, "I am a better man today that I ever was back then. I don't think I would go back!" The quote on the inside back cover of your book has continued to motivate me over the years, as well as many patients, family, and friends with whom I have shared your experience.

"Resolve to be tender with the young,
Compassionate with the aged,
Sympathetic with the striving,
And tolerant of the weak and wrong,
For sometime in life, you will be all of these."

Thank you for the positive influence you have had on my life and career!
I love you guys!

Kim Reid
